Joseph Vincent Conrey's Obituary
Joseph Conrey, 73, of Spotsylvania County passed away on September 16, 2022. He was a longtime resident of Pennsylvania, lived in New Jersey, other locals around the country and world before making Virginia his home.
Joe was a highly educated man who earned his Bachelor’s degree from Maryland Institute College of Art and his Master’s degree from East Tennessee State University majoring in printmaking and sculpture.
After graduating, he became a Professor of Fine Arts and was the department director for many years all while serving as a reservist for the Army. During his time in the Army, he served in both Desert Storm and in Afghanistan, retiring after twenty-four years as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 2007.
Joe dedicated his life to federal service within various entities of the Department of Defense and worked tirelessly throughout his life to defend this country. Despite his many professional and military accolades, Joe was a dedicated husband and father. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved traveling and fishing. He was also an avid reader, talented artist, musician, and educator who had a longstanding love for music, cigars, and a good Old- Fashioned cocktail. Above all, Joe was a man devoted to God and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Elizabeth Conrey; his children, Cassidy and Jolie; as well as Colin and Benjamin (Anna); and two grandchildren, Liam and Ronan. He is also survived by many close relatives and life-long friends.
Joe’s family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2022 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8200 Robert E. Lee Drive, Spotsylvania, VA. Burial will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Joe’s family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
