Joseph G. Brenner's Obituary
Joseph G. Brenner, 86, of Remington died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Amerisist Assisted Living in Culpeper. He was born March 31, 1926 in Groveton, VA to the late Charles and Walker Brown Brenner.
Mr. Brenner had been a resident of the area since 1959 having moved from Alexandria and was a member of Cannans Faith Church of God in Fredericksburg. He began driving trucks at the age of 13 and was drafted in the Army as a dump truck driver. During his enlistment he received a Purple Heart while serving in Germany and was a member of the 2nd Rangers. He spent more than 50 years driving trucks.
During his teenage years he picked a guitar and played with others such as Jimmy Dean, Smitty Irving and many other friends. Until recently, he traveled to different nursing homes playing his guitar and when he wasn’t playing he was working the family farm where they raised hay, hogs and chickens.
Mr. Brenner is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Blankenship and her husband, Harvey of Remington and Gwen Lee and her husband, Marcus of Ewa Beach, HI, one sister, Pat Holbrook of KY, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Corbin Brenner.
The family will hold a memorial service on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 7 pm at Cannans Faith Church of God, 1470 Forbes St., Fredericksburg, VA 22405.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 7 to 9 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 2 pm at Culpeper National Cemetery with Pastor Tim Dobson officiating. Military honors will be provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524 and Culpeper American Legion Post 330.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of the Rapidan, PO Box 1715, Culpeper, VA 22701.
