Jose Francisco Mathew's Obituary
Jose “Pep/Joe” Francisco Mathew, 76, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024. He valiantly fought a terminal illness at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Jose “Pep/Joe” was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on October 31, 1947. He was raised in El Barrio and was a proud New Yorker. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in New York City in 1966. Soon after graduation, he was drafted into the Vietnam War in 1968. He married the love of his life, Tina, in 1969 and kept his vow, “Til death do we part.”
Army Sgt. 1st Class, Jose F. Mathew honorably served and retired as a proud veteran of the U.S. Army in 1994 at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He loved traveling and music, especially salsa, blues, and motown. Jose was a lifelong New York Yankees and Giants fan. But most of all, Jose loved his beautiful wife and family with all his heart and soul. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Jose is survived by his wife, Carmen “Tina” Iris Mathew; daughter, Justine Mathew Arnold; son, Jose Francisco Mathew Jr.; siblings, Iris Acosta and Daisy Mathew Lamping; and beloved granddaughters, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Mathew and Marta Mathew; and his sibling, Luz Mathew.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A reception will follow the service.
