John William Baker's Obituary
John William Baker, 69, of Culpeper died Friday, March 6, 2009 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born May 28, 1939 in Rappahannock County to the late Henry Irvin Baker and Virginia Elizabeth Knott Baker.
John was a former employee of Rochester Corporation and Gilmore’s Exxon Station, and was a member of Lael Baptist Church in Lignum. He enjoyed gardening and working in his wood pile. He had a smile for everyone he met, and he will be missed.
He is survived by his siblings, James and Bill Baker, Robert and his wife, Ruby, Wilbur “Junior” Baker, David Baker and his wife, Sheila, and Wayne Baker, all of Culpeper, and Ed Baker and his wife, Emma, of Reva, and Nina Peyton of Boston. He is also survived by twenty nieces and nephews, Bethany, Allison, Gary, Jeff, Kendal, Penny, Karen, Ernie, Ed Jr., Carrie, Bonnie, Jessie, Angela, Richard, Heidi, Wendy, Jessica, Mark, Kelly and Lynn. Additional survivors include two special friends, T. C. Cubbage and Kayleigh Knighting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Anderson, and a brother, George Nelson Baker.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Maranatha Baptist Church in Amissville with Rev. John Burke and Pastor Albert Payne officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
