John M. McGovern, Jr.'s Obituary
John M. McGovern, Jr. of Culpeper, Virginia, formerly of Woodbridge, Virginia passed away on June 17, 2007 at the age of 63. John faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps where he was honorably discharged as a Corporal. John moved to Virginia from Cambridge, Massachusetts and worked for AT&T for over thirty years. Upon retiring from AT&T, John worked for the Prince William County School System in the Risk Management and Loss Prevention Office from where he retired.
John’s passion was always helping people, and he did this by serving as an active member of the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years. John served as a Station Captain and Board of Director during his years with the Department. John’s community service was recognized by him receiving the Betty Limerick Award, the most prestigious award the Department has to offer. John was also a member of the Lt. John Dowd Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Woodbridge, VA.
John leaves behind his loving wife of thirty-six years, Mary Ann McGovern of Culpeper; his daughter Maureen McCuen and her husband Jeff of Paris, Texas; his son Jack McGovern of Fredericksburg; his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Patrick McCuen of Paris, Texas; his brother, Bill McGovern of Sanford, Maine and his sister, Veronica Brietzke of Warwick, Rhode Island; and numerous other family members and friends all over the world.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John McGovern, Sr. and Inez McGovern of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and by one sister, Mary Jane Johnson of Salisbury, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 21, 2007 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery.
