John Levi Southard's Obituary
John Levi Southard, 87, took a peaceful journey home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 24, 2006. He departed this life at the Culpeper Regional Hospital with his family and friends close by his side after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born April 26, 1919 in Lignum, VA. to the late William Thorton Southard and Lilly Mae Strother Southard.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II with many military honors. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. His passion before and after retirement was farming. During his life he never met a stranger and always enjoyed conversation.
He is survived by nine children, Mary Bailey and her husband, Thomas of Culpeper, Shirley Holt and her husband, Danny of Lynchburg, Betty Wright and her husband, Eddie of Rixeyville, Hazel Cubbage and her husband, Terry of Culpeper, John Southard, Jr. and his wife, Winona of Rixeyville, Charles Southard and his wife, Jackie of Arlington, Matthew Adams and his wife, Charlotte of Blanket, Texas, Jimmie Southard and his wife, Cindy of Rixeyville, Roger Southard and his wife, Patricia of Culpeper, and one grandson raised as a son, Shaine Adams and his wife, Michelle.
He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one sister, Lucy Mae Carrick of Seabrooke, MD and two sisters-in-law, Gladys Southard of Culpeper and Virginia Southard of Byrans Rd, MD.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Elizabeth Haines Southard, one sister, Nellie Wade, and five brothers, Frank, Harry, George, Walter, and Jack Southard.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Burke and Rev. Rick Love officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors provided by the Culpeper American Legion Post #330 and the Culpeper V.F.W. Post #2524.
Pallbearers serving will be grandsons, John Kling, Jr., Justin Southard, Jamie Wright, Craig Southard, Dillon Southard, Shaine Adams, Dana Southard, John Kling, III, Terry Cubbage, and Rodney Cubbage.
