John L. Myers' Obituary
John Leslie Myers “Big John”, 48, of Fredericksburg was promoted to Heaven Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg. He was born September 11, 1957 in Bethesda, MD to the late Murrel Lee Myers, Sr., and Doris Therrien Myers.
Big John was a family man who cared deeply for his wife, children, and his late parents. He was a collector of many things and an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed cars, listening to music, especially the blues and playing the harmonica. After many years of being employed with Rochester Ropes he then went to work for the Culpeper County Sherriff’s Department as a deputy Sherriff where he treated everyone as equals. He believed in being fair and giving everyone a chance. He later worked for R.J. Reynolds as a sales representative.
Big John loved children and was considered a father figure to many. He was a little league baseball coach in Culpeper who took his team to state twice. He would pick up and take his team members to their games and provided meals. John was a very caring and extremely giving person. He was a one of a kind, genuine man that will be missed by all.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of twenty nine years, Darlene Kay Myers, his son and best friend, Jonathan Leslie Myers and his fiancée, Marie Lee of Culpeper; his son, Justin Alan “Sally” Myers and his wife, Kara, one grandson, Aiden Jon Myers all of Berkeley Springs, WV, one brother, Murrel Lee Myers, Jr. “Sonny” and his wife, Donna of Smithsburg, MD, his loyal dog, “Hank” Myers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Wayne Myers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kevin Dawson officiating.
Interment will follow in Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.
