John Edward Curtis' Obituary
John Edward Curtis of Culpeper passed away on November 11, 2006 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
John was born to the late Ashby Scott and Carrie Green Curtis on November 12, 1929 in Culpeper County. He is survived by his wife of 47years, Edith Brown Curtis; his children Page Curtis, Pam Zwigart, Scott Curtis, and Karen Weaver and her husband David all of Culpeper. Grandchildren include Michael, Stephen, and John Graves, Christopher and William Curtis, and David Allen and Kendra Jo Weaver. He is also survived by a sister Virginia “Ginny” Mills and her husband Richard “Dick” of Richmond, Virginia. Also a sister in law Louise P. Curtis of Reva, Virginia, a wonderful host of nieces and nephews including Michael Curtis, Debbie Peters, Scott and Mason Mills and their respective families. Also his devoted and loyal “Jack”, his pet Jack Russell Terrier who never left his side.
In addition to his parents, He is preceded in death by his brother William A. “Bill” Curtis and a nephew Richard Randolph Mills Jr..
John worked for several years at Carpenter’s Seed Cleaning Plant in Mitchells, Virginia. Afterwards he spent the next 28years at Virginia Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator. Upon his retirement from VDOT in 1995, he was able to devote more time to his favorite pastimes, farming and gardening, he enjoyed both of these. He also took great enjoyment in having breakfast and lunch at “Baby Jim’s Snack Bar” in Culpeper. He was a member of Winston Memorial Chapel and a lifelong member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows Phoenix Lodge 59.
The Family will receive friends at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels of Culpeper 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 from 6-8p.m..
A funeral service will be held 11a.m.on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels of Culpeper with Pastor Sandy Martin and Pastor Josh Shifflett officiating.
Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers named are Scott Curtis, Rusty Inskeep, Ron Holbert, John Inskeep, Bill Inskeep, Harry Ruffner and John Clatterbuck. Honorary Pallbearers named are Floyd Sisk and Marshall Sophia.
