John Henry Sulima's Obituary
Jack Sulima passed away suddenly on November 16, 2022.
Jack was born on November 9, 1945 in Chicago, IL. He attended Northern Illinois University for his undergraduate degree and received his PhD in Geology from Northwestern University. He spent his career within the energy resources field, ultimately retiring from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 2012.
Jack remained devoted to Carolyn, his wife of 39 years. Together they enjoyed traveling, attending University of Mary Washington plays and concerts, participating in Mary Washington ElderStudy, running, biking, hiking and kayaking.
Jack was an amazing father to his children, Maria and Christopher. He never missed a single sporting event or musical performance, and always provided unwavering support and encouragement every step of the way.
He also leaves behind his beloved father, Hank Sulima, who Jack cared for until his death. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Sulima.
Jack was blessed to have many wonderful friends in his neighborhood community. Besides spending time with his family and friends, Jack loved gardening, photography, cheering on the Northwestern Wildcats, and playing his guitar and performing in nursing homes in the Fredericksburg area.
A celebration of Jack's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jack's memory to UMW Theatre at the University of Mary Washington (https://giving.umw.edu/) or to the Amyloidosis Foundation (https://amyloidosis.org/)
