John G. Russell's Obituary
John Glen Russell, 85 of Culpeper died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Culpeper Regional Hospital.
John was born August 10, 1925 in Charleston, MO to the late Thomas Beckwith Russell and Frances Lovelace Russell.
A loving husband to his “sweetheart” and wife of 53 years Norma Jean Russell, John was an avid sailor and golfer he will always be remembered as the kindest and most gentle person one could ever know. He could always be found in his later years with a pocket full of jelly beans. After being honorably discharged from the U. S. Navy, he had a very successful career as a financial engineer.
John is survived by his four children; Rick Russell and his wife Connie of Tuscon, AZ, Kathy Checklick and her husband John of Culpeper, VA, John Russell, Jr. and his wife Karol of Turnersville, NJ, and Cynthia Baggot and her husband Scott of Glassboro, NJ. Nine grandchildren; Jay, Steve and Joseph Checklick, Sara and Scotty Baggot, Tanya Burke, Casey, Anna and Hannah Russell and eight great grandchildren; Alyssa, Joey, Carter, and Jaxon Checklick, Isaac, Gage and Taryn Burke and Travis Russell.
Additional survivors include two sisters, Jane Jackson and her husband Bob of Charleston, MO and Mary Osborne and her husband Dan of Lake Providence, LA, one brother RADM (Ret.) Thomas B. Russell of Norfolk, VA.
In addition to his parents John is preceded in death by one sister Sue Russell and one brother Bill Russell and one sister in law Lee Russell.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date when all of the family is able to gather together for a reunion and celebration.
