John Joseph Quinn, Jr.'s Obituary
John Joseph Quinn Jr. 81, of Culpeper passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 doing what he loved to do, flying. He was born August 25, 1934 in Culpeper to the late John Quinn Sr. and Mary Weis Quinn.
JJ started flying at the age of 15. He joined the U.S. Navy as an Aviator and served for 4 years. JJ was a 34-year United Airlines pilot, flying over 10 different aircraft during his career. After JJ retired in 1994, he returned to his hometown, Culpeper, and dedicated his life to building an aviation community that extended well beyond the local airport and inspired multiple generations. He instructed pilots of all ages, flew hundreds of volunteer missions, and touched each of our lives in indescribable ways.
JJ was the most loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, instructor, and most importantly a true friend to all. His smile and positive attitude were contagious. JJ had a joke for any occasion and lived every day of his life to the absolute fullest.
JJ was the definition of a life well lived.
He is survived by three children, Kelly Quinn Murphy and her husband, Tom of Vienna, VA, Shannon A. Quinn and her husband, Ernie Schuck of Sewell, NJ and John J. Quinn III and his wife, Sherry Autry Quinn of Merritt Island, FL; one sister, Mary Theresa Bice and her husband, Bob and JJ’s girlfriend, Vicki Sullivan. His pride and joy were his eight grandchildren: Sean, Erin, Kailee, Shannon, John Joseph Quinn IV, Iris, Kate, and Keenan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Saganowich Quinn.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jeff Light and Father Trinkle officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A private family interment will be held at Fairfax Memorial Park at a later date.
Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is serving the family.
