John Barry Matthews' Obituary
John Barry Matthews, 79, of Amissville went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the University of VA Medical Center. He was born September 6, 1933 in Washington DC to the late Joseph and Helen Matthews.
Barry was a US Naval Aviator and retired after 21 years at the rank of Commander. He then worked with the Christian Broadcasting Network for 19 years. He was an active member of the Warrenton Bible Fellowship Church where he shared his love for the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Matthews, five children, John Barry Matthews, Jr. and his wife, Jackie of University Place, WA, Margaret Page and her husband, Rick of Suffolk, VA, Susan Kraus and her husband, Kevin of Amissville, Stephen Matthews and his wife, Renee of Casselberry, FL, and Mary Ann Cook and her husband, Keith of King George, VA, eleven grandchildren, one sister, Mary Clair Ogaard of France and one brother, Joseph Oscar Matthews, Jr. of Shepherdstown, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Anne Matthews Hranicky and one infant grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 11 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper with Pastor John Boswell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524 and Culpeper American Legion Post 330.
