John Joseph Dunn's Obituary
John Joseph Dunn passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. He was 83 years old.
John was born in Middletown, CT on October 30, 1941, and married Marcia Kay Peterson in Denver, CO on April 2, 1965. John served six years in the US Air Force, then worked 26 years for the federal government. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service and served as a union representative during his time with the Department of Agriculture. He retired in December 1996.
Throughout his life, John enjoyed many activities, especially with family. He supported Marcia and his daughter Jennifer in their equestrian pursuits, and he was always present at his son Jack’s sports events. For personal fulfillment, he loved gardening, fishing, and crabbing at their vacation home in Chincoteague. John and Marcia enjoyed traveling on cruises, the last one with the entire family in 2016. In later years, he kept his mind sharp with crossword puzzles and Sudoku and served on the board of directors at their residence in Summer Lake.
John is survived by his two children, John F. Dunn II (Lynn) and Jennifer Daly; five grandchildren, Brittany Dagenhart (Johnny), John Joseph Dunn II, Courtney Booth (Alex), Alix Aslinger (Taylor), and Chase Daly; five great-grandchildren, Bryce Dagenhart, Leighton Dagenhart, Sadie Dagenhart, Ayla Booth, and Malcolm Booth; and sisters, Penny Barriteau and Susan Ingraham.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marcia K. Dunn; his parents, John F. Dunn and Dorothy Drechsler.
The memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, April 4, 2025 at Hillcrest United Methodist Church, 2208 Lafayette Blvd, Fredericksburg. Family visitation will be before the service at 2:00 pm and will continue after the service.
