John A. Cox's Obituary
John A. Cox (Pete) 89, of Stuart, Va passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Dogwood Village of Orange County. He was born April 6, 1936 in Claudville, Va to the late William C. Cox and Geneva Anderson Cox.
Pete proudly served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. After his military service, he dedicated his life to the trucking industry. He worked for Roadway Express before eventually running his own business, spending 70 years on the open road. Pete truly loved the freedom of driving and the sense of adventure it brought. When he was home, he found joy in restoring cars, spending time with his family and friends, and staying out in the sun working on his tan.
Pete is survived by his children, Tammy Bradshaw (EG), Terry Martin (Stephanie), Teddy Martin (Rhonda), and Kim Blaylock; seven grandchildren, Alison Martin (Kyle), Wes Martin (Lindsay), Katie Bowman (Michael), Douglas Martin, Heath Martin, Chelsea Slezak (Keith), and Casey Clinage (Bob); 14 great grandchildren, Anna Weidhaas (Clint), Tyler Shough, Connor Martin, Patrick Martin, Grace Martin, Ben Bowman, Brody Bowman, Cameron Martin, Caleb Martin, Carson Martin, Kennedy Slezak, Baylor Slezak, Blake Clinage, and Drew Clinage; five great great-grandchildren, Lilly Weidhaas, Callen Weidhaas, Weston Shough, Novan Shough, and Ella Shough; siblings, Cleo Mitchell and Ray Cox; and a host of additional family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Pete is preceded in death by his wife, June Belton Cox; his brothers, Wayne Cox, Bobby Cox, and Bud Cox; and his sister, Hilda Mertinko.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
