Our deepest condolences to Betty and the family of John F. Coates. Our family had known John as a kind, loving, humble friend with great determination for the Town and County of Culpeper. We appreciated his hard work and dedication as a member and Chairman of the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors,The Salem Ruritan Club, as well as a number of other civic organizations. John will be remembered for not only serving his country but for serving his fellow members and friends of Culpeper. John was truly a fighter and an inspiration to so many. It was an honor to have known him.

John was the most dedicated and honorable public servant for Culpeper County, never displaying shady or partisan politics. He was always a ‘ man of the people ‘ and we felt privileged to call him our friend. Our prayers are with you, Betty, and all of your family during this very sad time.
Prayers and sympathies to you Betty and your family. John was a family friend. He and my Dad were "cow buddies" . God Love him. He fought a long fight, but he is definitely in a better place now....

Dear Betty and family,
I am truly sorry that I'm unable to attend to honor John tonite, but due to my medical condition, am unable to. John loved his position on the board as Salem representative and he especially cherished his chairmanship. Please accept my sincere sympathies during this difficult time.

I LOVED seeing Mr. Coates when he would come into the bank! Hands down one of the best customers a business could ask for. We both shared a love for the "OLD" Athenean's restaurant in Culpeper before it changed owners and eventually closed. Every time since then ,he would come in and we would discuss new restaurants that we had tried. I will miss seeing him around. Family and friends are in my thoughts.
