John Benjamin Brown's Obituary
John Benjamin "Benny" Brown, 87, of Culpeper, died Saturday, November 23, 2024, at The Culpeper. He was born February 13, 1937, in Culpeper County, VA to the late Charles Shelton Brown, Sr. and Ruby Mae Hitt Brown. He was raised within the county in the community of Stevensburg, VA.
John was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and an avid gardener. He graduated from
Culpeper County High School in 1955. John was a U.S. Army Veteran from 1961 until 1963 stationed at Okinawa Island. He worked in retail as an executive where work-life took him to Winchester, VA., New York, NY. and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He retired to Culpeper in 2001. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Board of Directors for his HOA.
He is survived by two sons, Jonathan F. Brown and Gregory C. Brown; five grandchildren, Ryan Brown, Victoria Brown, Emily Shepherd, Austin Shepherd, and Vee Brown; one sister, Ruby Patricia "Patsy"; and one sister-in-law, Joan Heinzman.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Alice Jane Heinzman Brown; and his siblings, Charles Shelton Brown, Jr., Thelma Mae Aylor, Billy Thompson Brown, Anna Mary Mitchell, Kenneth Lee Brown, Newton Ransdale Brown, Barbara Wood Fincham, Roy Tucker Brown, and Edith Hartman Curtis.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Precious Blood
Catholic Church, 114 E Edmondson St, Culpeper, VA 22701 with Father Kevin Walsh officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
