Joe Fitzhugh Clift's Obituary
Joe Fitzhugh Clift 74, of Spotsylvania County, died at Mary Washington Hospital on Friday, August 31, 2012.
Joe was born and raised in King George County, served in the US Army, and was co-owner of Clift Sales & Service, Clift Lumber & Supply, and Camlift. He was a member of the Hudson-Morris Masonic lodge, Lee’s Hill Golfers Club, and Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, of 51 years, Janice; son, Joe “Fitz” Clift, Jr. and his wife, Trudy; daughter, Juliette Mersiowsky and her husband, J. Scott; son, Jeffrey Clift and his wife, Amie; daughter-in-law, Donna Clift; his grandchildren, Jesse, Rebecca, Christian, Jamie, Jessica, Jonathan, Troy, Tyler and Kaylee; great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Kevin; his siblings, Mary Ann Cameron, Peggy Hall, his twin, Jerry Clift, Donald Clift, and Madison “Matt” Clift; his Goddaughter, Meredith Norris and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. and Vashti H. Clift and his son, John Michael Clift.
A memorial gathering will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2012 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 308 Hanover Street, Fredericksburg.
