JoAnn Sholes' Obituary
JoAnn Sholes, 76, of Rixeyville, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
She was truly a saint and an angel to all who knew her. A devoted matriarch, JoAnn loved unconditionally and gave of herself freely to her family and friends. She was the heart of her home-a natural caretaker who always put others before herself. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family into her work as a home health aide, where she provided comfort, dignity, and care to those in need. JoAnn found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved tending to her garden, where her flowers flourished under her gentle care, and she delighted in cooking meals that brought her loved ones together. Her cats were a constant source of companionship and happiness, and she cherished them deeply. To know JoAnn was to feel loved, supported, and cared for. Her unselfish nature and warm heart touched countless lives, and her memory will forever be a blessing to those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, family, and all who knew her.
JoAnn is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, James Edward Sholes; her children, Arlene Driver, Jennifer Sprouse and Barbara Sholes; her sister, Mary Sirio (Steve); two brothers, Gary Johnson and Jim Johnson; her grandchildren, Shelby Driver, Cody Sprouse, Kristen Sprouse and Austin Wood; and many other loving extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Blair Johnson and Maggie J. Short; and her siblings, Benny Johnson, Jean Donald, William Johnson, and Larry Johnson.
A funeral service will be held in her honor at 1 pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery.
