Joan Valerie Stokes' Obituary
Joan Valerie Stokes, 72, of Locust Dale, died Monday, September 19, 2022 at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation. She was born December 26, 1949 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to the late Frank and Valma Stokes.
Joan graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s of science in mathematics. She spent most of her career working for NASA as a computer programmer. She loved dogs, and enjoyed biking, skiing, swimming, tennis, horseback riding, and camping.
She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Edward Siira; her daughter, Valerie Siira; five siblings, Dr. Elaine Stokes, Dr. Ruth Stokes, Anne Stokes (William Robertson), John Stokes (Anna Belle), and Cheryl Lang (Dr. Joseph Lang); her mother-in-law Celine Siira, one sister-in-law, Dr. Cynthia Siira; three brothers-in-law, Robert Siira (Ginger), James Siira (Sharon), and Dr. Richard Siira (Margaret).She loved being the “fun aunt” to her nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Adams, Dr. Jonathan Adams, Dr. Erik Stokes, Zoe Stokes, Kevin Lang, Dr. Alex Lang, Emily Lang, Michael Chedester, Rebecca Dussault, Leah Cambardella, Alina Siira, Katie Siira, Rebecca Siira, Meron Siira and Aidan Siira; and a host of grand nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 10 – 11 AM at Found and Sons Funeral Home, 850 Sperryville Pike Culpeper, VA 22701. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel. A reception will follow the services at Ed and Joan’s home, 7537 Oak Park Rd., Locust Dale, VA 22948.
