Joan E. Doe's Obituary
Joan Elizabeth Doe, born Joan Elizabeth Elzey, entered glory on September 5, 2024, in Fredericksburg, VA. She was born in Salisbury, MD, to Laura and Olin Elzey and had been married to Stephen D. Doe for 52 years and was the mother of four children, Christopher, Laura, Jessica (married to Brian), and Joshua (married to Karin), and the grandmother to Grace, Matthew, Jacob, Henry, Libby, Hannah, Ava, Caleb, Sarah, James, Kaitlin, and Charlotte. She is survived as well by a brother, Ted, and two sisters, Patti and Diane; Joanie was pre-deceased by a brother, Phil.
Joanie (her preferred name) graduated with a BA in English literature from the University of Maryland. She worked in various forms of retail but majored on raising her children and helping her husband in his work as a pastor. Together they served churches in Oxnard, California, Lincoln, Nebraska, Barre, Vermont, and Fredericksburg, Virginia. An excellent writer, Joanie wrote magazine articles, had a blog, taught Bible studies, and led workshops. Her faith in Jesus Christ was evident in all her interactions and activities and now she is alive forevermore in His presence, loved there, and missed here.
A memorial service will be held on September 16, 2024, at 10:00 am at Bethel Reformed Presbyterian Church, 9304 Onyx Court, Fredericksburg, VA, 22407, followed by a reception. The graveside service will take place at 2:00 pm at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 East Chandler St. Culpeper.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Reformed Presbyterian Church at the above address.
