Joan Hunsberger Corbin's Obituary
Joan Hunsberger Corbin of Culpeper, VA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, in her home of 54 years in the early hours of December 20, 2025 of natural causes. Joan was born on May 4, 1940, to the late Conrad Godfrey Hunsberger and Madeline Corbin Hunsberger.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Eugene Franklin Corbin, whom with she had a strong and loving marriage; 5 children she was blessed with; Teresa Davis Newberry, Robert Michael Davis (Kelly), Melinda Davis Hill (David), Donald Andrew Davis (Kay), and Deborah Davis Woodward-Eakins (Roy) who always enjoyed a warm and loving relationship with their momma; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and recently with a great great-grandchild; seven younger siblings, Laura, Rosia, Connie, Madelyn, Kathy and Karen; and a host of many more family and friends. We like to say she had 15,000 grandchildren, 30,000 great grandchildren and it continued to expand as she was “Mawmaw” to us and many in the Culpeper community.
Joan leaves a legacy of love, service, and volunteerism in the Culpeper Community and surrounding counties. She drove for the Culpeper County School system for over 30 years. Many children in Culpeper felt her compassion, as she not only drove them to school, but also made sure they felt loved, heard, and cared for. During that time, she also worked for as the graphic artist/paste up specialist for the Culpeper Star Exponent. Following her time with the Star Exponent, she worked for NADA as their graphic artist.
Her volunteerism began with the Culpeper Little league, as she and Gene volunteered with coaching and “slinging hash” as she was known to do, lasting long after her own children outgrew the league. She was a founding member of the Reva Volunteer Fire and Rescue in 1995. In the early years she drove their ambulance and held the office of Secretary, but soon she settled into her greatest skill, cooking for large crowds. Every Tuesday night bingo was Joan’s home cooking. She also volunteered her catering for the benefit of the Reva volunteer Fire and Rescue, with the help of her beloved Reva kitchen team. She continued her service as an active member of the Madison Presbyterian Church, serving several terms as elder of the church. She was also the leader on the church’s Fellowship team, where she made sure love and fellowship was shared around good food.
