Joan Kille Connock's Obituary
Joan Kille Connock, 78, recently of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away Dec. 14, 2016. Mrs. Connock was born to Wesley Grant Kille and Helen Thompson Kille, July 13, 1938 in Salem, Ohio.
As a child of an Air Force officer, she lived in a number of localities in the U.S. during her youth. In 1960 she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from McNeese State College, Lake Charles, LA. She taught Middle School students in Louisiana, Nebraska, on Air Force bases in the Philippines, France, and Germany, and in several locations in Virginia before moving to Culpeper, VA. She taught at the Culpeper Middle School for 17 years. During this time she served two terms as President of the Culpeper County Education Association.
After her retirement from teaching, she served as a member and Vice-Chairman of the Culpeper County School Board, representing the Catalpa Magisterial District, from 1994 to 2000. She was a recipient of the Culpeper County Education Association’s Golden Apple Award in 1999.
She was a member of the Culpeper Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Virginia Education Association, and the Culpeper County Retired Teachers Association.
She and her husband enjoyed visiting new places and derived much joy by traveling extensively throughout the United States and in many other countries.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Anne Connock.
Surviving Mrs. Connock is her husband of 51 years, Robert Henry Connock, Jr.; her son, Robert Grant Connock and his wife Jennifer of Royal Palm Beach, FL; her brother and his wife, Grant and Maureen Kille of Suffield, CT; her sister-in-law and her husband, Marjorie and James Pierce of Columbia, MD; and five nieces.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Culpeper Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wayne Bernardo officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the service.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
