Joan Marshall Brewer's Obituary
Joan Marshall Brewer, 82, of Warrenton, VA died Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Fauquier Hospital. She was born January 16, 1939 to the late William and Emily Marshall.
Mrs. Brewer was the eldest of twelve children growing up helping to raise her siblings. She worked hard sacrificing her own wants for the needs of others. Mrs. Brewer took in foster children to care for and mentor over the years. She retired as the chef at Warrenton Training Center. She enjoyed rhythm and blues music of the 60’s and 70’s and she loved to laugh. Mrs. Brewer bought the historic African American schoolhouse in Turnbull, renovated it and made it her home.
Mrs. Brewer is survived by her three sons; Ken Omar Rashad (Kenny Marshall) of Fayetteville, NC, Brandon Brewer of Culpeper, VA, and William “Redd” Mudd Brewer of Warrenton, VA, and her foster children; Sue Penn and Robin Penn. She is also survived by her siblings; Douglas Marshall of Bethel, VT, Cornelia Marshall of Warrenton, VA, Clarence Marshall of Warrenton, VA, and Gayle Grooms of Columbus, OH.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brewer is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Eugene Brewer, III, and seven of her siblings.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 11:00 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. The family would like to invite those unable to attend to join via live stream at
