Jerry Lee Asbury's Obituary
Jerry Lee Asbury, age 74, went home to heaven on Monday, July 8, 2024. Born in Berwind, WV on August 4, 1949, he was the son of the late William Charles Asbury and Kathryn Patty (Rowe) Asbury. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Joseph Asbury, William “Grant” Asbury, Charles Asbury, and Roger Asbury, and his sister, Martha Asbury.
Jerry was a graduate of Big Creek High School in War, WV in 1967. He was a US Army veteran. He also attended Shepherd University. He was a retiree from a long career at Dominion Energy. He enjoyed spending time with fellow retirees and friends at their regular lunches, attending WVU Mountaineer football games, spending time camping, going to his brother’s “hunting camp” in Pennsylvania each fall with his family, enjoying time with close friends, and spending time on his farm in Ronceverte, WV. He also enjoyed hosting a family reunion there at the farm each August close to his birthday. Everyone who met Jerry loved him and knew him to be a good man.
Jerry was also a Christian and had been attending Rapidan Baptist Church prior to his passing. He also had attended the Church of Christ in Lewisburg, WV.
The greatest joy of Jerry’s life was his family. He most loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and siblings. He loved being a Daddy and a Poppaw. He was proud of his family and would do anything in the world for them. They will miss him beyond words.
Those left behind to honor Jerry’s memory are his three children, Aubrey Scott Asbury and his wife, Tameran (Morgan) Asbury; Benjamin Thomas Asbury and his wife, Amanda (Morgan) Asbury; Jerri Ann (Asbury) Brooks and her fiancé, Joseph Sumego; seven grandchildren, Wyatt Brooks, Tucker Brooks, Ethan Asbury, Kaeley Asbury, Ella Asbury, Audra Asbury, and Evelyn Asbury; two brothers, Dexter Asbury and his wife Kay, and Albert Asbury and his wife Carolyn; sisters -in-law Charlene Asbury (Grant) and Betty Jo Asbury (Charles); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Culpeper National Cemetery at noon on July 22, 2024, with Rev. Billy Tatum officiating. The cemetery is located at 501 East Chandler St Culpeper, VA 22701. A reception for friends and family will be held directly afterward from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at The Refinery at 120 W Culpeper St Culpeper, VA.
