Janet Elizabeth Colvin's Obituary
Janet Elizabeth Colvin died on January 31, 2023 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, after a long illness. She was 68 years old. She was born on January 29, 1955 at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Alabama to Col. Thomas E. Colvin (USAF) and Barbara James Colvin.
As the daughter of an Air Force fighter pilot, she grew up in various states and countries around the world. Possessed of a singular wit and fertile imagination, Janet wrote wonderful stories and loved to create colorful items through her talent in knitting.
She was a devoted grandmother who adored her grandchildren, and a Christian who took great comfort in her faith. She attended Frostburg State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. She retired from her position as a Financial Agent III for the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Division of Reimbursements.
Janet is survived by her four children, Elizabeth Marie Edmondson (Stuart Sponaugle), Robert Lee Charlton III (Anika Volkov), William Andrew Charlton, and Janet-Susannah Michelle Charlton (Josh Freeman); grandchildren, Leah Elizabeth Edmondson (Steven Simmons), Lacy Nicole Edmondson, Katherine Laney Edmondson, Nikoli Loki-Laufeyson Charlton, and William Popper Sponaugle; sisters, Patricia Colvin and Carolyn Colvin Helvey; brother-in-law, Granger Helvey; and three nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gabrielle Rose Charlton; one grandson, Sampson Heimdall Freeman; parents, Thomas E. Colvin & Barbara Colvin; brothers, John, James, and William Colvin; niece, Summer Samantha Barrow; and grandparents, H. H. (Jack) & Carolyn Colvin and W. E. & Barbara James.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on February 9, 2023 at Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 S West St, Culpeper, VA 22701 with Pastor Dan Carlton officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
