Jane Lee Ponto's Obituary
Jane Lee Ponto died at Culpeper Regional Hospital on October 1, 2011. She was born on January 17, 1921, the eldest of six children of Edgar Bruce and Vivian Rowena (Edmondson) Wolford.
She was predeceased by brothers Neil E. and John H. Wolford and sister, Margaret E. Brown.
She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Anne Crittenden of Casanova, Virginia; her sister, Carole Weadon of Springfield, Virginia; and her brother, David M. Wolford, Sr., of Culpeper. Also surviving are one honorary grandson, several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, "Chester".
She was a member of Post 2524 Culpeper, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and The American Veterans' Association. A veteran of World War II, she enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and saw service in England, France and Germany through the end of the war. During that time she met and married her late husband, Colonel Arthur F. Ponto, US Air Force Reserve. She was later employed by the Department of the Army, The Pentagon, and retired in 1972. She moved to Culpeper in 1975.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 7-8 PM at Found and Sons, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 1:00PM at the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Rikkis Refuge, P.O. Box 1357, Orange, Virginia 22960 or Pigs, A Sanctuary, 1112 Persimmon Lane, Shepherdstown, West Virginia 25443.
