James Wilkerson McKinzie Witten, Jr.'s Obituary
James Wilkerson McKinzie Witten, Jr. “Jay”, 96 of Brandy Station, VA died on Monday, September 15, 2008 at Our Father’s House Christian Home. He was born on October 11, 1911 in Tazwell County, VA to the late J.W.M. Witten and Martha Harriette Witten.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Sallie Ratrie Witten, three brothers and five sisters.
Jay was a retired farmer having worked on his farm until the age of 90. He enjoyed bird hunting, billiards, and horse racing.
He is survived by two daughters, Crimora Ayers and her husband, Larry of Greenville, SC, and Sarah Barron and her husband, Bill of Brandy Station, VA. He is also survived by a brother, Henry Witten of Williamsburg, VA and two sisters, Louise O’Neill of Strasburg, VA and Beverly Witten of Baltimore, MD.
Additional survivors are his grandchildren, Heather Ayers Garnett, Gregory Ayers, Michele Barron Beamer, Julia Barron Kuettel, and Keith Barron, and his eleven great grandchildren, Luke, McKinzie, Rachel, and Rebecca Garnett, Justin and Autumn Ayers, Tanner and Trevor Beamer, Jonah Kuettel, and Paige and Ela Barron.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 18, 2008 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Wayne Duncan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 19, Brandy Station, VA 22714.
