James R. Carder's Obituary
James R. Carder, 94, of Culpeper died Monday, August 18, 2008 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1914 in Marshall, VA to the late William Aubrey and Jane Frances Mozingo Carder.
James was a long time, active member of Culpeper Baptist Church. He was a resident of the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community, a member of Norman Ashley Rebekah Lodge #69 and Phoenix Lodge 1.0.0.F.59 for 55 years.
He is survived by one son, Paul Carder and his wife, Dorothy, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Catherine Jones of Culpeper, Doris Carpenter and her husband, Harry of Culpeper, three step children, Dorothy Walker and her husband, Lewis of Batna, Charles Reese and his fiancé, Dorothy Hicks of Fredericksburg, and Fred Reese and his wife, Ann of Melbourne, FL.
Additional survivors include three sisters, Alice Utterback of Decatur, GA, Myrtle Pullen of Winchester and Jane Schumacher of Warrenton, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, and fourteen step great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife his first wife, Mary Ellen Carder, his second wife, Elizabeth R. Carder, three sisters, Virgie Pullen, Gladys Lloyd and Mattie Bowles.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 12 p.m. at Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 S. West. St., Culpeper with Dr. Ted Fuson and Rev. John Farrar officiating. A one hour visitation will be held prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Carpenter, Paul Carder, Jr., Nicholas Carpenter, Carl Jones, John Walker, and Jeff Walker.
