James Franklin Dowell's Obituary
James Franklin Dowell, 83, of Reva, died on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born on August 15, 1925 in Madison Mills, VA to the late Philip Whitler Dowell and Bertie Slaughter Dowell.
Mr. Dowell served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was a retired foreman for VDOT. In his early years he enjoyed hunting but his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his love.
He is survived by his two sons, James F. Dowell Jr. and his wife, Linda of Lignum, and Larry W. Dowell and his wife, Donna of Unionville.
Additional survivors include his sister, Helen Carpenter, his grandchildren, Larry W. Dowell II and his wife, Melissa, Bryan P. Dowell and his wife, Lisa, Jason A. W. George and his wife, Jeran, Sarah M. Dowell, Jaime K. Dowell and Amanda R. Dowell and her fiance, Troy and his great grandchildren, Isaiah J. Dowell, Kaylyn J. George, Bryan Lee Dowell, Tyler P. Dowell, Devan W. Lacy and Kelsy, Drew and Chase Stoner.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Mae Dowell, and siblings, Pete, Everett, William and George Dowell and Sis Twyman.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper VA 22701.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Adam Meisberger officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
