James Carroll Racer, Jr.'s Obituary
James Carroll Racer, Jr., 82, of Amissville died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Warren Memorial Hospital. He was born June 30, 1927 in Rappahannock County to the late James Carroll Racer, Sr. and Mary Coppage Racer Woodard.
Mr. Racer served his country in the United States Navy and fought during WWII. He was a member of Washington Baptist Church and worked at American Viscoe in Front Royal. He enjoyed farming and gardening.
Carroll is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ivy Ellen Jenkins Racer, his children, Roger Lee Cooke and his wife, Marsha of Amissville, Mary Ellen Smoot and her husband, Charles of Front Royal, Carolyn Eline and her husband, Kenny of Amissville, Bonnie Lou Cave of Rappahannock, James C. Racer III and his wife, Camille of Amissville, three sisters, Mae Johnson of Maryland, Lois Jenkins of Madison, and Beverly Burke of Washington, VA, and one brother, Calvin B. Racer of Chester Gap.
Additional survivors include six grandchildren, Angela Deavers of Castleton, Lauren Eline of Amissville, Daniel Cave of Rappahannock, Jacob and Joshua Racer, both of Amissville, Wesley Cooke of Culpeper, two great grandchildren, Wesley and Hunter Cooke, and a host of nieces and extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Racer and George Richard Racer and one sister, Ester Leonard.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper with Rev. Philip Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Washington Masonic Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper V.F.W. Post 2524.
