James Durrett Southworth Jr.'s Obituary
James Durrett (J.D.) Southworth, Jr., 91, of Fredericksburg, born November 10, 1921, went to be with the Lord Monday, July 1, 2013 at Mary Washington Hospital.
J.D. received a purple heart while serving in the US Army during World War II; he retired from the FMC Plant as a mechanic and then started his own landscaping company.
He is survived by four daughters, Patricia Irving and her husband, Bill of Falls Church, Nancy Propts and her husband, Tom of Stafford County, Sarah Welch and her husband, Ken of Texas and Cynthia Hubbard and her husband, Johnnie of Mississippi; ten grandchildren, John Thomas Gilley, Annette Watts, Cyndi Woodward, Tommy Propts, Elita Caldwell, Martina Welch, Christina Nelson, Amanda Porter, Laura James and Kathryn Hubbard; nine great-grandchildren; and a niece, Ellen Taylor
J.D. was preceded in death by his wife, Elvira Giles Southworth; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Genobles and a brother, Willie Stephen Southworth.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Fredericksburg Baptist Church, 1019 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg with the Rev. Jack A. Marcom, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, J.D.’s family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Baraca Class, Fredericksburg Baptist Church, 1019 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
