James Wallace Meade Jr.'s Obituary
James Wallace Meade, Jr., 85, of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026. Born on February 26, 1941, in Rixeyville, Virginia, he was the son of the late James and Ruth Meade.
James was a proud veteran of the United States Army and a devoted member of Jeffersonton Baptist Church throughout his life. He dedicated an extraordinary 48½ years of service to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) before his retirement. Known for his strong work ethic, kindness, and commitment to his community, James also spent many years coaching softball, where he enjoyed mentoring athletes and sharing his love of the game.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Holly Meade (Todd Atkins); three nephews, Jim Clark (Terry), Kenny Davis (Carol) and Kevin Cropp; his niece, Yvonne Cropp; his great-nephew, Josh Clark and a special brother-in-law, David Edwards, along with many extended family members, friends, former players, and church family.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Meade, and his sister, Betty Davis.
James will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering faith, dedication to his family, and the positive impact he made on those around him. His legacy of service, compassion, and community involvement will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA, with Pastor Jon Morton officiating.
Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens, 4160 Rixeyville Road, Rixeyville, VA 22727.
