James Cresswell Lumb's Obituary
James Cresswell Lumb, 86, of Fredericksburg, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
James was born in Lemmon South Dakota to the late Cresswell and Lucille Lumb.
James served in the USAF for 28 years. Immediately upon his retirement from the Air Force, he went to work for the Southland Corp. where he worked for 13 years. James was a member of the American Legion Post 320 in Spotsylvania County. He was a prolific reader, member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, an avid Square Dancer and he enjoyed traveling in his RV.
James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gladys; two sons, Michael S. Lumb and wife, Karen, and David W. Lumb and significant other, Terry Kirby, all of Spotsylvania; one sister, Patricia Morris and husband Joe of Arizona; three grandchildren, Shana Lumb-Capers, Zach Lumb both of Spotsylvania and Amanda Lumb of Nokesville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne Schurr.
A funeral will be held at 12 Noon Thursday December 11, 2014 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 5120 Harrison Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will take place Friday December 12 at Quantico National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in James’ name to your favorite charity.
