James "Jim" Robert Godwin's Obituary
James Robert Godwin “Jim” passed away at home, in Remington, on September 21, 2022. He was born December 26, 1935 in Los Angeles, CA to the late James C. and Jenny Johnson Godwin.
Jim was raised in Alexandria, VA and attended George Washington High School, graduating in 1955. He soon met and married Joan Waple Godwin. Jim entered the Army and was a drummer in the Third Army band in Ft. McPherson, GA. He had a lifelong love of all kinds of music and performed in a number of bands in his youth. After his discharge from the Army he and Joan moved back to Northern Virginia, where he eventually took a position with King Wholesale in Chantilly, VA. He and Joan also had a business called JJ’s in VA. He retired from the CSC Corporation.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Coast, of Remington; two granddaughters, Shannon Watterson and Nikki Coast, both of Culpeper; great grandchildren, Preston Schneider, and Hunter, Penny, and Daniel Watterson; two brothers, David Godwin, of Winchester, Randy Godwin, of Sarasota, FL; and one sister, Bettejo Bloodsworth, of Canton, NC.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Godwin, after 49 years of marriage; and his sister, Clarice “Cassie” Schoenthal.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October, 1, 2022 at Calverton Baptist Church, 4583 Catlett Rd, Midland, VA 22728 with Pastor Chaz Campbell officiating.
A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Fairfax City Cemetery, next to his beloved Joan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jim’s name to the charity of your choice or to the Calverton Baptist Church.
