James Benjamin "J.B." Hurlock's Obituary
James Benjamin “J.B.” Hurlock, 87, of Richardsville, went home with Our Lord and Savior, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at his home. He was born April 4, 1935 in Locust Grove to the late Kenneth and Ocie Hurlock.
J.B. was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather (Papa) to his family that he loved deeply. He played the guitar and would sing and yodel, entertaining the entire family. He loved fishing and hunting and supplied many of his neighbors with fish to eat. He enjoyed relic hunting. J.B. enjoyed helping others, was an honest man, and never judged anyone. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. J.B. was a founding member of Richardsville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and once held the title of Fire Chief.
J.B. is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Ethel “Sally” Hurlock; four children, James “Jimmy” Hurlock, Jr. (Phyllis), Deborah H. Corder (Don), Barbara “Bobbie” Hurlock (Britt), and Gary Dewayne Hurlock, Sr. (Peggy); one brother, Bernard Lee Hurlock (Dianna); two sisters-in-law, Audrey Hurlock and Virginia Hurlock; twelve grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great, great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, J.B. is preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Gordon Hurlock, Jr. and Walter Hurlock; and one sister, Ruth Cutsail.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Oakland Baptist Church, 28348 Eley’s Ford Rd, Richardsville, VA with Rev. Bernie Jernigan and Rev. James Ayers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be; J.J. Vogltanz, Gary Hurlock, Jr., Joshua Hurlock, Evan Bache, Darrell Short, Ryan Fare, Craig Hogan and Mike Frattellone. Honorary pallbearers will be; Alex Hurlock and Jameson Vogltanz.
