James McLaughlin Hanafan's Obituary
James “Sergeant” McLaughlin Hanafan, 86, of Madison died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born June 15, 1926 in Iowa to the late Morris and Eva McLaughlin Hanafan.
Sgt. Hanafan was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the VFW Post 737 in Council Bluffs, Iowa before moving to the area 22 years ago. Not only did he love the Marines, he was proud to be Irish and loved to watch his Notre Dame “Fighting Irish”. Sgt. Hanafan enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by two children; Trish Woycik and her husband, Robert of Elkwood and Cathy Hanafan; two grandchildren, Robby and Danny Woycik of Bealeton; and two siblings, Mary Sealock and Bill Hanafan, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Cooney Hanafan; and two brothers, Robert and Donald Hanafan.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 2 pm at Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper American Legion Post 330 and V.F.W. Post 2524.
