James Nicholas Demotses' Obituary
James Nicholas Demotses, age 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026. He was beloved by many and will be deeply missed.
Born on November 7, 1940, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Jim was raised in Bridgeport and Stratford. He attended the University of Bridgeport, where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting, followed by an MBA and CPA certification. He went on to build a successful and fulfilling career as a public accountant with John Venman & Co. After relocating to Virginia, he continued his professional journey as a Financial Advisor with Summit Enterprises. Later in life, Jim discovered a passion for teaching and became a Professor of Accounting at several institutions including Strayer University, where he inspired and mentored many students. Throughout his career, Jim was known for his intelligence, confidence, and strong work ethic.
Above all, Jim was devoted to his family. He cherished time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren, always offering guidance, support, and encouragement.
In his younger years, Jim enjoyed golfing. In more recent years, he found joy in playing card games, sharing a glass of wine, and spending time with neighbors, friends, and family.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Beth and husband Michael Salaris, their 3 children: Catherine, George and Anthony; son-in-law, Dennis Smith; and his brother-in-law Bruce and wife Peg Brown.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Sandra Demotses, and his daughter, Kathleen Smith. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, May 16, 2006, from 11 a.m. until noon at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
