James Henry Deering Sr.'s Obituary
James Henry Deering Sr., 86 of Spotsylvania County, passed away at home with his family on Tuesday, January 6, 2015.
James was the epitome of an old school U. S. Marine. He loved the Marine Corps, military life, and his family. He was an outdoors man in every way. He loved to hunt, fish and even enjoyed farming after retiring from the Marine Corps. He served with distinction in two tours during the Vietnam War, and even volunteered for the second tour, so that his children didn’t have to relocate and change schools. He attended military school as a young man, and it instilled a desire to be the best soldier he could be. His fellow servicemen said early in his career that he was destined to “live hard, play hard, and die hard.” His life is best summed up in a special quote from his loving family. “He lived a life of dedicated service to his family and his country.”
James leaves behind his loving wife of 37 years, Lorene Mae Deering; a son, James Henry Deering, Jr. and his wife, Dawn, all of Spotsylvania; a daughter, Laura Maria Bobolia and her husband, Michael of North Carolina; two stepsons, James and Michael Hummer; a stepdaughter, Sheila Gillenwater and her husband, Tony; three granddaughters, Sarah Deering, Sarah Guerrero, and Erica Deering; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and close friends.
James’ family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Services, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle.
