Jack Daniel Merritt, Sr.'s Obituary
Jack Daniel Merritt, Sr. 54, of Rixeyville died on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born on August 31, 1955 in Tazewell, VA to the late Guy and Jane Merritt.
Mr. Merritt was an elder at the Gordonsville Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and turkey shoots but above all he loved the time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Gail Merritt, his three children, Jack Merritt, Jr. and his wife, Dana of Rixeyville, Karen Elkins and her husband, Bradley of Madison and Crystal Pullen and her husband, Larry of Rixeyville and his step son John Burton and his wife, Tish of Lignum.
Additional survivors include his four brothers, Guy Merritt, Jr., David Merritt and his wife, Janet, Cecil Merritt and his wife, Diane and Billy Merritt and his wife, Stephanie, two sisters, Donna Corbin and Mary Wright, five grandchildren, Savannah Lee Merritt, Matthew Boyd Smith, Jonathan Burton, Candy Shelton and Michelle Burton and three great grandchildren, Kayleigh Shelton, April Fincham and Ryleigh Fincham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Arthur Corbin and sister-in-law, Mary Merritt.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. John Burke officiating.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Elkins, John Elkins, Mike Duncan, Jr., Raymond Davis, Justin Coldtree and John Merritt. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Checchi and David Merritt, Jr.
