I have very fond memories of Irene Kopjanski from over the years. She went to school with my father Bill Benedict in Monroe CT and she had the nickname "Jeep" She worked for my dad as the book keeper at Benedict's Agway for many years and she did a great job! I worked with her in the store and she was always very precise!

We had a farm and someone gave my father a horse. I learned how to ride and I joined Pineview Horseman 4-H club and Irene was the leader. I learned so many things about horses from Irene over the years. I went to 4-H horse shows and 4-H horse camp and Mousie Bond would truck my horse.

Irene was a great woman and she will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

My mom Sally Smith Simpson had been in Pineview Horsemen when she was 16. That was how she met Irene. My sister Mary Simpson and myself had been second generation Pineview Horsemen as Irene was so fond of telling everyone. What good memories I have of those 4-H meetings, the shows...all of it. I remember when we would go down to Benedict's Agway in Monroe with mom...we always stopped in to see Irene and visit for a bit.

Mom was telling me that the Pineview Horsemen sign that was brought to the horse shows she had painted it for the club back when she was part of it.

So many good memories are associated with Irene. I will share one that always makes me smile when I think about it. Mom use to make a no bake cookie...it was nothing more then melted chocolate chips and Wheaties cereal. She would shape them into wreath's put a little green colored sugar on them and some red hots for color...she only ever made these at Christmas time...one of the first things Irene would ask mom when it came time for our Christmas party was.."Sally your going to bring those wreath cookies aren't you?" and mom always did.

Mom, Mary and I send all our love to the family.

I remember when we were kids and my Aunt Irene yelling at us kids to close the screen door to the kitchen. We are always going in and out of the house. Must have driven her crazy!

My fondest memory of my Aunt, my sister and my cousins, Cindy and Gary, was the local 4H horse show. My Dad would borrow Mousie Bonds huge red truck to transport some of the horses. There’s a picture somewhere with that truck and all the kids and all the ribbons won strung across it.
Me and Gary were “helpers”, basically just moving bars and barrels on the “western” event side.
Miss my Aunt, miss those days.

So sad to hear of Irene’s passing. She was an incredible individual and I had the pleasure of volunteering with her for many, many years through the Fairfield County 4-H Horse program. She worked tirelessly to teach youth important life skills through horses. We worked side by side on many committees to benefit the youth and raise funds for various programs. Irene kept us grounded and focused! The Pineview Horsemen, the Stamford Trailblazers and the Brookfiekd Big Buckets … all 4-H horse clubs … all their lives touched by Irene. She was such a wonderful woman. Rest In Peace as you ride across that rainbow bridge. You will be missed! Sincerest condolences to all her family and friends. Hugs & love.
