Ingrid Mae Dobrovolny's Obituary
Ingrid Mae Wickenden Dobrovolny passed away November 21, 2020 in Culpeper, Virginia after a long fight with dementia. Ingrid was born December 1, 1934 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada to Reverend John and Edna Wright Wickenden. She was followed by brother Herbert and sister Carol. Rev. Wickenden was rector of parishes in Kingston and McAdam, N.B. before accepting a position in Mt. Morris, New York. Ingrid graduated from High School in LeRoy, NY and then trained to become a Registered Nurse in Rochester, NY. In 1956 Ingrid became a US Citizen and joined the US Navy in which service she rose to the rank of Lieutenant in the Nurse Corps. Ingrid returned to Western NY after completing her service to her new country and met and married Dale Dobrovolny. To this union a son Charles was born and he subsequently married Stacey Eaton Dobrovolny. Their three children became Ingrids treasured grandchildren.
Professionally Ingrid worked as an RN at Roswell Park Memorial Institute both in pediatric, and radiation therapy departments. She was always that rare person who would take action and help people who were in need. She was a faithful Christian and volunteered time as treasurer, alter guild, and church secretary. Ingrid also became the substitute mother of 5 foreign exchange students. Ingrid loved traveling, visiting each exchange student in their home country, as well as visiting most countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India, and many South America countries plus 49 of the US states.
A memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Tonawanda, NY. Inurnment will take place at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD
