Inez Lawson's Obituary
Inez Eleanor Shirk Lawson, 76, of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully from this earth on Friday, November 13, 2009 at Mary Washington Hospital after a brave fight against lung cancer.
She was born in Punxsutawney, PA on December 30, 1932. She spent her early childhood years in Punxsutawney before moving to Alexandria.
Inez graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria and then married Harold, whom she met while both were working at the Coca Cola bottling plant in Alexandria.
She was a stay at home mom before joining the workforce spending most of her employment time in the home building industry. She and Harold lived in Lorton for many years, where she was active in the Lorton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary before moving to Fredericksburg.
Inez is survived by her five children, Cynthia Lawson of Alexandria, Evelyn Penn of Fredericksburg, Harold Randy Lawson, Jr. and his wife, Karen of Seminole, Florida, Donald Lawson, Sr. and his wife, Shelby of Manassas and Kathleen Schlosser and her husband, David of Herndon; 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Also surviving her are four sisters, Sara Meeks and her husband, John of Stafford County, Mary Catherine Hamby of California, Nancy Jean Prashaw and her husband, Larry of New York and Zenda Wesnor of Alabama; a brother, George and his wife, Bonnie of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harold R. Lawson, Sr.; her parents, Nellie and Max Shirk; two brothers, Francis and Kenneth and one son-in-law, Kenneth Penn.
Inez’s family will receive friends Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A funeral service celebrating Inez’s life will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 11:00 am at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
