I never met Howie, having started work as a structural engineer with the Navy shortly after he retired, but he remains legend among us. His engineering achievements are truly extraordinary, surpassing most in his profession. The Navy works his massive and beautiful double deck piers hard every day. They could not put to sea defending the free world without the support of Howie's piers. Respect.
Beth I was sorry to hear about Howie. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Beth, Katie, Sean and Leslie, my heart goes out to you all. Howie was a friend. He was caring and loved you all so much. I close my eyes and can hear him rocking out on his heavenly guitar. Keeping you all in my prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of Howie's passing. Having left Rhinebeck shortly after graduating, I lost track of many classmates. I remember talking with Howie for a good portion of the final meet up of our 50th class reunion. He was an attentive listener and a great storyteller as we caught up on our families and what had transpired in those 50 years. We shared recipes after the reunion, and I still keep them all. Deepest condolences to you all.
Leslie,
I am so sorry to hear of Howie’s passing. It breaks my heart to think that he is gone. We spent many days talking to each other over the computer sending emails back and forth. He was still working and would tell me what he was working on. We also shared so many memories of Rhinebeck and school talking about everything and anything. Many times laughing about all those good times so long ago. He knew things that I did not and vice versa. He was a special man who also shared so much about the challenges he had raising his boys who he was so proud of in life.
My condolences go out to you and them and the rest of his family. He will be missed by all of us who knew and loved him.
