Howard Noland Cornwell's Obituary
Howard Noland Cornwell, age 79, went home to be with the lord at his home in Fredericksburg, VA on Monday, December 19, 2022, surrounded by his family.
He was a husband, a loving father, and an amazing grandfather. Howard, who most knew him as Grandad, was the oldest of four children.
He was born and raised in Manassas, VA. In 1962 he married his sweetheart, Phyllis Ann Keller. They were married for 51 years when Phyllis passed away in 2013. Together they lovingly raised three children of their own: Drema Joyce, Wayne, and Teressa, and Howard’s sister Judy.
Howard was an operating Engineer and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 77 for fifty-two years. He was immensely proud of his talent as a crane operator and his career in construction. He was a Crane Operator for: Crane Services, Williams Crane Services, and CMR. He worked on many of the high-rise buildings around the Capital Beltway and through-out Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. Among his past times, he enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Nationals both of which he was an avid fan. He loved camping with his family in his RV, enjoyed spending time in the mountains and at the beach. He loved eating country cooking at family gatherings, and fishing at the Fredericksburg City Dock. His upbeat personality and positive outlook on life brought joy and laughter to those who knew him.
Howard was preceded in death by his loving wife Phyllis Ann Cornwell, his mother Marjorie V. Cornwell and his father Howard M. Cornwell, his youngest brother Daniel Cornwell, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws.
His is survived by his brother Gerald Cornwell of Oklahoma and his sister Judy Kay Teevan and her husband Frank, of Woodbridge, VA, his daughter Drema Joyce Hough of Fredericksburg, VA, his son Wayne Cornwell of Patchogue, NY, and his daughter Teressa Taylor Griffis and her husband Mark of Stafford, VA. Additionally, his family includes his grandchildren: Krystal Pritchett, Nicholas Hough and his wife Stacie, Benjamin Cornwell and his wife Maggie, Jordan Taylor, Danielle Cornwell, Alexa Taylor and Amanda Taylor, his great-granddaughter Addison Hough, his nieces Melanie Cihak, Allyson Teevan, and Laura Bridges his great-nephews Theodore and Matthew, and great-niece Elizabeth. He is also survived by his best friend and companion Nancy Purks, who he spent his last year living life to the fullest.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Rd., Fredericksburg.
