Horace Layfield Clary's Obituary
Horace Layfield Clary, 89, of Spotsylvania County, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011 at Mary Washington Hospital.
Horace was a Deacon at Mine Road Baptist Church for 32 years. He retired from Greyhound Bus Lines after 35 years of service and served his country honorably during World War II.
Horace later became a long time member in good standing with the American Legion and spent much of his time at Post 320 in Spotsylvania. He shared his retirement years with his greatest joy, which was time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Naoma Clary of Spotsylvania; and two sons, Travis Clary of Chevrolet, MD and Tim Aponte of Spotsylvania; one daughter, Tracy Meadows of Bonaire, GA.; four grandchildren, Timmy Aponte, Mike Aponte, Jessi Alexander and Russell Meadows; and five great-grandchildren, Aaron, Mason, Virginia, Michael, and Skylar.
He will be missed by his surviving siblings, his brother and sister, Sammy and Marlene Clary, both of Lake Gaston, VA.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 12:00 pm at Mine Road Baptist Church, 11111 Post Oak Road, Spotsylvania, VA. Inurnment will be held in the church cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Horace’s family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in his memory to Mine Road Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2332, Spotsylvania, VA 22553-6809.
