Hilda Maude Brown Winkler's Obituary
Hilda Maude Brown Winkler of Boston, Virginia, passed away January 5, 2017, at the age of 96. She was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Carlyle and Flossie Elizabeth Brown.
Beloved by many for her generosity and candor, Hilda loyally served as the Boston Virginia Postmaster for 37 years and lovingly ran the Boston General Store for over four decades. She loved socializing with people and looked forward to hearing about their day to day lives. A lifelong member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Hilda enjoyed sharing her faith. She lived her last years in Orange, Virginia, where she met many new people and developed enduring friendships, but her heart and soul would forever rest in Boston, Virginia.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Hilda Kathryn Winkler Higginbotham and Kent C. Higginbotham of Orange, Virginia; grandson, Robert Kent Higginbotham; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Carlyle Higginbotham.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Winkler; and her infant son, Thomas Carlyle Winkler.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Harrelson officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be W.C. Winkler, Wayne Gadow, James Wells, William Ward, Michael Ward, Jack Ward, Doug Butler and Ebbie Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Winkler, Greg Butler, Steve Winkler and Hunter Hemp.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, 19 Scrabble Rd., Boston, VA 22713.
