Herbert Howard Hash's Obituary
Herbert H. Hash, Sr., 97, of Culpeper VA died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born on February 13, 1911 in Woolwine, VA to the late John Samuel and Minnie Whitlow Hash.
He is survived by his three sons, Herbert Hash, Jr. and his wife, Norma, of Boone, NC, Randy Hash of Bluemont, VA, Happy Hash and his wife, Katie of Culpeper, VA and a daughter, Reva Hash also of Culpeper.
Additional survivors include his grandchildren, David and Andy Hash, Scott Hash, Tiffany Rosebush, Rachel Williams, Bethany Bailey, Ryan Hash, and Nathan Sanford, one great grandchild, Hendrix Alexander Sanford, three brothers, Joe, Roy, and Jim Alvin and three sisters, Lucy, Ruth, and Ella.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth Earle Weaver Hash, brothers, John, Kermit, Herman, and Dexter, and sisters, Velda, Hester, and Mary.
After graduating from the University of Richmond, he became a professional baseball player for the Boston Red Sox. He left baseball in 1942, and began a 33 year teaching career in the Culpeper School System. His spare time was used for coaching, farming, auctioneering, fishing and hunting. He was also a longtime member and deacon of New Salem Baptist Church. Upon moving into the Baptist Retirement Community, he attended the Culpeper United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Sandy Martin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Young Life of Culpeper, PO Box 803, or to Culpeper Gideon’s, PO Box 83, Culpeper VA 22701.
