Henry Bruce Brown's Obituary
Henry Bruce Brown, 79, of Woodville died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at his residence. He was born September 27, 1928 in Woodville to the late Henry Aldridge Brown and Chloe Merle Brown.
Bruce, Dad, Grandpa and PopPop, as he was fondly called by various family and friends, was a loving son and brother, devoted husband, a dedicated, loving, inspiring father, and a proud and loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a proud, peaceful, and protective man who did his very best for his family and friends.
He attended Sperryville Elementary School as a child. He was inducted into the Army/Air Force in November, 1946, and honorably discharged in November, 1949 with the rank of corporal. He then continued his life’s adventures as a loyal employee of the Holsum Bread Company, retiring after 25 years of service. After that he continued his love of farming by managing Natalie’s farm.
Bruce and his wife decided early in their marriage to confirm their faith together by being baptized and becoming members of Thornton Gap Baptist Church. His joys in life were very simply stated by Bruce when he said, “ The Good Ole Life: my wife, Satch, and my children and my grandkids and great-grandkids.” When talking about his life, he often referred to a song that he liked so well, ‘I’m a Lucky Man.’
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Marie “Satch” Brown and three children, Robert Bruce “Buck” Brown, Lawrence William “Skizicks” Brown and Tanya Gail “Monkey” Bass. Additional survivors include five grandchildren, Amanda Rae and Bobby Jolene Brown, and Jayla Marie, Jovon Bruce and Justin Kirk Bass. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Malik and Carter Brown, a sister, Bonnie H. Brown, and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Wayne Brown.
