Henry Bannon Utz, Jr.'s Obituary
Henry Bannon Utz, Jr., 77, of Culpeper died Monday, May 13, 2013 at his residence. He was born February 21, 1936 in Orange, VA to the late Henry Utz Sr. and Addise Leake Utz.
Henry married the love of his life, Kitty Brown on March 14, 1955. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman from 1954-1958 and later graduated from Bryan College in Dayton, TN in 1962 with a BS in Biology. After obtaining his BS, he went on to earn his Masters in Education and Education Specialist from James Madison University and obtained his highest educational honor as a PhD in Counseling/Psychology. He was a gifted educator in Shenandoah, Page, and Frederick Counties for many years as well as a respected football and wrestling coach. He was a superior builder who developed his own small business- Quality Home Builders. Henry was a servant of Jesus Christ having been a pastor for many years and founder and camp director of Green Mountain Camp in Fort Valley, VA. His love for Jesus Christ was abundant and most important to him was his love for people and his passion to see them trust Christ as Savior. Henry was a devoted and loving father to six daughters. He was an excellent storyteller and beloved Pap who instilled strong values in his seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors and cherished the time spent with his family. Henry will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine Brown Utz; six daughters, Lori Criswell and her husband, Steve of Aylett, VA, Sandi Robinson and her husband, Rick of Woodstock, Va. Nancy Ritenour and her husband, Rocky of Fort Valley, VA, Becky Cowgill and her husband, Al of Bluemont, VA, Kathy Koser and her husband, Ken of Elizabethtown, PA and Amy Utley and her husband, John of Culpeper; and one brother, C. Perry Utz and his wife, Patsy of Madison.
Additional survivors include seventeen grandchildren; Nate Robinson of Nashville, TN, Luke Robinson and his wife, Jenna of Woodstock, Jordon Robinson and his wife, Mandi of Ferrum, VA, Ashley Ruark and her husband, Jeff of Richmond, Va., Zachary Ritenour and his wife, Brandy of Fort Valley, VA, Justin Ritenour and his wife, Jessi of Fort Valley, VA, Lydia Ritenour of Broadway, VA, Jameson Cowgill and his wife, Katie of Fort Valley, VA, Kody, Kasey, Chloé, Tyler and Jordon Koser, all of Elizabethtown, PA, Dwayne Johnson and his wife Sheila of Newport Richie, FL, Koser, Dylan, Parker and Gavin Utley, all of Culpeper; nine great grandchildren, Taylor and Lucas Robinson, both of Woodstock, Tyler Robinson of Ferrum, VA, Ethan Ritenour and Sydney Puttman, both of Fort Valley, VA, Savannah Ritenour of Fort Valley, VA, Sadie Cowgill of Fort Valley, VA, and Ann and Mason Johnson, both of Newport Richie, FL; three nephews, Matthew, Mark and Michael Utz, all of Madison; one niece, Ginny Meisner of Tappahannock, VA as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 11 am at Providence Bible Church, 17211 Greens Corner Rd., Culpeper with Pastor Howie Holmes and Pastor C. Perry Utz officiating.
Private interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
