Helen G. Zirkle's Obituary
Helen Genoa Zirkle, 98, died Wednesday at Woodmont Center in Fredericksburg. Helen was married to the late Otis Linden Zirkle. Born on June 22, 1910 on the family farmstead in the settlement of Jerome in Shenandoah County to Charles and Dicie Ann Funkhouser, Helen was preceded in death by her brothers Seward and Hobart Funkhouser and her sister Rhoda Price. Helen was a long-time resident of Dahlgren, Virginia where she was a loyal member of Dahlgren United Methodist Church, and was well known for her cooking and baking, especially her coconut cream pies. Helen moved to Fredericksburg in 1988 where she lovingly cared for her husband until his death in 1997. They were married 66 years. Helen is survived by her daughter Ailene Bartlett, of Williamsburg, and sons Alan and Carl Zirkle, of Fredericksburg, and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Dahlgren United Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19. A graveside service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jerome at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 26.
